Arkeia Network Backup
The Arkeia Backup Server
The heart of the Arkeia system is the Arkeia Backup Server, which controls all backup functions and offers centralized management of all clients (Figure 1 on next page). The backup server runs on Linux or Unix and supports D2D backup or any SCSI tape device-from a single tape drive to tape libraries with up to 48 drives. Arkeia packages are easily and quickly installed with a few simple mouse clicks. The Arkeia Backup Server functions include:
Managing the scheduler engine and invoking the backup process.
Accepting backup data from Arkeia clients.
Working with the backup storage device and writing data being backed up to long-term storage media.
Cataloging backed-up data including name, location, version, date/time stamps, ownership, permissions and all other pertinent information regarding the stored data.
Managing day-to-day housekeeping routines within the storage environment such as tape rotation, error notification, log file management, etc.
Locating data to be restored, reading it from the storage media and transmitting it to the waiting Arkeia client.
